1) Flower Sale
2) What is most important for a Floriculturist to know in order to be successful?
3) Objective: To educate the students on the concept of how flowers are imported and transported throughout the L.A. flower industry
4) Hook: A chart of the world with trails highlighted upon where they are imported to California and then sold wholesale to florists and supermarkets
Low: explain how Wholesale flowers work, such as Mellano & Co.
Med: explain how the market on importation works and the changes in technology behind it
High: compare different parts of the world and their part of the industry in California
Activity: during the presentation ill have showed flowers and what parts of the world they are from
I give everyone a picture of their flower and ask them to sit in a corresponding spot with one location representing california, and then i ask every country(group) to try to get their flowers from their table to california without leaving their seats, yet they may use any other means at their disposal with the following rules
1) Flowers must remain in good condition, a crumble up thrown flower(paper) will result in a bad shipment to the market and the group doesnt get a point
without telling them i will also hand them rubber bands to each group (increase in ship capabilities)
and envelopes (the introduction of freeze-dried flower shipments)
Due to how it is set up, the group that represent California farms will win because although they are still competeing agiansnt the world market, this just goes to show how they will always maintain the home advantage within the floral market industry
